What Is an Ozone Machine?

An ozone machine, also called an ozone generator, is specialist equipment that converts oxygen into ozone gas. In professional car detailing, ozone may be used inside an unoccupied vehicle after physical cleaning to help treat persistent organic, smoke, pet and mould-related odours in the cabin and ventilation system.

Ozone treatment does not replace cleaning, extraction or removal of the odour source. People and animals must remain outside the treatment area until the machine has been switched off and the vehicle has been thoroughly ventilated.

What Is an Ozone Machine Used For?

An ozone machine is used in professional car detailing to help treat persistent odours after the source has been removed and the vehicle interior has been thoroughly cleaned.

Glitz Detailing uses a Cliplight Fresh Air Purifier Ozone Generator to treat stubborn smells associated with Mould, smoke, pets, Vomit and Milk, coffee and other food or drink spills. Ozone can circulate through the unoccupied cabin and ventilation system, reaching areas that ordinary surface cleaning may not easily access.

How Does an Ozone Machine Work?

The Cliplight 170AIR ozone machine uses ultraviolet technology to convert some of the oxygen in the surrounding air into ozone. An internal fan then circulates the ozone through the unoccupied vehicle and its recirculating ventilation system.

Ozone reacts with certain odour-producing compounds, changing their chemical structure instead of simply covering the smell with fragrance. After treatment, the machine switches off and the vehicle is thoroughly ventilated before anybody re-enters it.

Is an Ozone Machine Safe Around Humans or Pets?

An ozone machine is not safe to operate around people or pets. Ozone is a strong oxidising gas that can irritate the eyes, throat and respiratory system when inhaled at elevated concentrations.

Glitz Detailing operates the Cliplight 170AIR only inside an unoccupied vehicle. People, pets and plants are kept away during treatment, and the vehicle is thoroughly ventilated before anybody re-enters it.

Are Ozone Machines Illegal in Australia?

Ozone machines are not generally illegal in Australia, but their use is subject to workplace health and safety, airborne-contaminant, electrical-safety and environmental requirements.

Safe Work Australia lists a peak workplace exposure limit of 0.1 ppm for ozone. Glitz Detailing operates the Cliplight 170AIR only inside an unoccupied vehicle, keeps people and animals away during treatment and thoroughly ventilates the cabin before re-entry.

Is an Ozone Machine Bad for the Environment?

An ozone machine is not environmentally harmless. The ozone produced by the Cliplight 170AIR is ground-level ozone—a reactive air pollutant that can affect people, animals, plants and some materials at elevated concentrations.

Glitz Detailing limits its use to controlled treatments inside unoccupied vehicles, operates the machine only for the required period and ventilates the cabin afterwards. Ozone is unstable and gradually breaks down, but it must still be handled responsibly.

Can an Ozone Machine Remove Mould From a Car?

An ozone machine cannot replace professional combined vacuum steam machinecar mould removal. Ozone may help treat residual mould-related odours after cleaning, but it does not vacuum spores, extract moisture or reliably reach mould embedded inside carpets, underlay and seat foam.

Glitz Detailing first physically removes accessible mould contamination using vacuuming, controlled steam, suitable cleaning treatments and extraction. The Cliplight 170AIR may then be used inside the unoccupied vehicle as a finishing treatment for persistent musty odours.

Can an Ozone Machine Damage a Car Interior?

Excessive ozone exposure can damage some car interior materials, including susceptible rubber, plastics, fabrics, dyes and surface coatings. The risk depends on the ozone concentration, treatment duration, material type, age and existing condition.

Glitz Detailing reduces this risk by physically cleaning the vehicle first, using the Cliplight 170AIR only when appropriate and limiting treatment to the required period. Longer or repeated ozone treatments are not automatically better.

How Long Does Car Ozone Treatment Take?

A typical treatment using the Cliplight 170AIR car ozone machine takes approximately 20–30 minutes. Persistent odours or larger vehicles may require additional treatment.

The complete appointment takes longer because the contamination must be physically removed first and the vehicle must be thoroughly ventilated afterwards. Treatment time depends on the vehicle size, odour source, contamination level and condition of the interior.
